The new facility offered advantages not only of displacement, but had larger valves, better heads, and a hotter camshaft. It was rated at 350 bhp. His prodigious 510 pounds-ft of torque (2,800 rpm in an underground) was exceeded among production cars only by Cadillac 474 - and 500-cid V-8.

Standard on the GS functional hood scoops that were attached to an air cleaner double-entries. For the truly power hungry, Buick offered the 455 performance package Stage I. Their adjustments included a hotter cam, bigger valves with stronger springs, ported heads, revised and carburetor well. Torque has been changed, and slyly put Buick at 360 hp, but most testers said it was over 400. The bargain of just $ 199, the Phase I package includes a 3.64:1 axle Positraction and performance modifications to the available three and four-speed automatic and manual.

During the year, model, Buick unveiled the ultimate expression of his ultimate supercar, the GSX. He added $ 1,196 for the GS 455 and came in either Apollo White or Saturn Yellow left sole.
